As a dancer there'll always be moments when you're insecure or feel as if you're not good enough. We've all been there before so don't feel as if you're alone on this. That being said here are several ways you can feel more confident as a dancer:
1) Don't focus on the people around you, just dance.
Remind yourself that you're there to dance for you, not to be judged by others. Let yourself get lost in the music and don't worry what anyone else thinks. After a while, you'll realize that everyone is mostly focused on themselves anyway and you should be too.\
2) Identify your strong points.
You must be good at SOMETHING when it comes to dance. List all of your strengths and then focus on improving your weak areas. You'll definitely feel more confident.
3) Realize your achievements.
Whenever you master a routine or get a skill done properly for the first time be proud of yourself. I'm not saying you must be cocky. Just be pleased with what you were able to accomplish and give yourself some credit; you worked really hard to achieve it!
4) Pay attention to how you talk to yourself.
Look at it this way, if you wouldn't say it to someone else then don't say it to yourself! If you keep telling yourself, "Hey, I'm good.", then eventually you'll start to believe it and be able to appreciate your talents.
5) Don't beat up yourself when you mess up.
Even the best dancers make mistakes! It doesn't make you a bad dancer if you slip up from time to time. Learn from your errors; they'll help you grow as a dancer.
6) Have fun!
If you love what you're doing then that should be enough for you. Don't compare yourself to professionals or your fellow dance mates. Remember, you are your biggest competition. Just enjoy yourself and make the most out of any opportunity you get.
